Best spas in Bali for kids and families

Think spa days are strictly for grown-ups? Not in Bali. From chocolate massages and fruity cream baths to mini manis and pedis, these are the best spas in Bali for kids and families.

I have a confession to make. My first Bali holiday was not exactly a wellness retreat. There was considerably more vodka than yoga, very little interest in inner peace and, at one point, I ended up buying a horse. Poor judgement. Great story.

These days, I approach Bali rather differently. I have children to drag around, a considerably lower tolerance for hangovers and a genuine appreciation for the restorative powers of someone quietly kneading the knots out of my shoulders while I lie perfectly still. Naturally, the kids want in.

Fortunately, Bali has embraced the family spa day with the sort of enthusiasm usually reserved for infinity pools and smoothie bowls. There are dedicated kids’ spas, parent-and-child treatments, mini facials, chocolate massages, fruity cream baths and enough manicures to keep a tween occupied for at least 20 minutes. Some are beautifully serious spa experiences. Others involve cupcakes, glitter and children being treated like tiny royalty. My kids love ’em all.

Whether you’re travelling with a small person who thinks a massage sounds suspicious, a tween who has discovered nail art or a teenager who would rather die than be called a princess, here’s where to find the best spas in Bali for kids and families.

Conrad Spa Bali

Where: Tanjung Benoa

Formerly known as Jiwa Spa, Conrad Spa Bali has long catered to families with parent-and-child treatments, including Mum & Me and Dad & Me experiences. The idea is simple enough. Instead of sending the children off for their own treatment while you disappear into a state of bliss, you can make the spa experience something you do together. It’s particularly handy for parents who are not quite ready to leave a younger child in a treatment room alone. The resort also has a broader range of family activities, making this an easy one to combine with a family stay at the resort.

Part of Heavenly Spa by Westin at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, the Westin Kids Spa has a dedicated children’s menu with mini facials, fruity cream baths, manicures and pedicures, hair braiding and temporary tattoos. There are also Prince and Princess treatments and a Mommy and Me beach massage. Some treatments have age restrictions, so check the current menu before booking.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly resort where the kids can have their own spa experience while the grown-ups get some pampering too, The Westin Resort Nusa Dua makes an easy base.

Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort

Where: Nusa Dua

One of my daughter’s absolute faves, The So Spa at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua has dedicated treatments for children aged two to 10, including a 30-minute Soft Balinese Massage, Yummy Mini Facial, manicure and pedicure. An adult must remain with the child in the treatment room. There are also Mum and Me and Dad and Me treatments, combining foot bath rituals and adult massages with a choice of treatments for the child. Mum and Me runs for 120 minutes, while Dad and Me is 90 minutes.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly resort where the spa can be part of the holiday rather than a separate outing, Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua makes a particularly easy base.

AYANA Resort and Spa

Where: Jimbaran

While technically open only to those over 12, The AYANA Resort spa menu does include several gentle treatments for children aged four to 12, including a 30-minute Lava-Stone Melt using warm stones to soothe little bodies after a big day in the pool. Teens aged 13 to 16 get their own options too, with a traditional Balinese Urut massage and a thermal-stone recharge, and parents or guardians need to be with under-18s during their treatment, which makes it an easy way to share the experience.

If you’re staying in Jimbaran, AYANA Resort makes it easy to combine a family holiday with a little spa time for everyone.

Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali

Where: Kuta

The Tea Tree Spa at Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali clearly hasn’t forgotten about the smaller members of the family and is where my kids had their very first spa experiences. Its family treatments include mother-and-daughter and father-and-son experiences, with the adult receiving massage and nail treatments while the child gets a kids’ massage and mini mani-pedi. There are also separate mini massage, facial, manicure and pedicure treatments for children.

If you’re travelling with younger kids, Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali makes a particularly easy family base, with the Tea Tree Spa alongside a kids’ club, a children’s pool, plenty of family-friendly facilities and attractions nearby.

Grand Seminyak Spa at Grand Seminyak

Where: Seminyak

Grand Seminyak Spa takes the concept of a children’s spa day and runs enthusiastically with it. There is a dedicated kids’ spa menu, including a chocolate massage for children, along with Princess and Little Guy nail treatments and a baby massage. Because apparently the next logical step after chocolate cake is being professionally massaged with chocolate.

If you’re staying in Seminyak, Grand Seminyak makes it easy to combine the kids’ spa experience with a family-friendly beachfront stay, with spacious suites, a rooftop spa and plenty of room to retreat when everyone’s been thoroughly pampered.

Jumeirah Bali

Where: Uluwatu

For something a little more luxurious, Jumeirah Bali’s My Little Spa is designed for children from six years old. During the 60-minute treatment, kids help make their own body polish from young coconut, brown sugar and coconut cream (cacao for the boys’ version, vanilla for the girls’), before sinking into a chocolate or cupcake bath. Frankly, the cupcake bath sounds like the sort of thing most adults would happily sign up for too. If you’re staying around Uluwatu, it’s a lovely way to make the spa part of the holiday rather than something you squeeze in between sightseeing stops.

If you’re planning to stay in the area, Jumeirah Bali turns the whole thing into a rather luxurious family wellness experience.

Tahara Spa at Sthala

Where: Ubud

At Tahara Spa at Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, kids can have their own mini spa experience while parents get some pampering too. The junior menu includes a one-hour massage and mini facial, plus a Barbie manicure and pedicure, while the Senior Vs Junior treatment pairs an adult Balinese massage and body wrap with junior treatments for a shared spa experience. Children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly place to stay in Ubud, Sthala makes it easy to combine the kids’ spa experience with a resort stay, with the hotel also welcoming children of all ages.

Standalone spas in Bali for kids and families

Bali Orchid Spa, Kuta

Where: Kuta

For families looking for a shared treatment rather than a children’s spa menu, Bali Orchid Spa has introduced an Orchid Family Package designed for three people. The family treatment combines massage and body scrub treatments, with a flower bath also available. It’s the sort of setup that works well for two parents travelling with one child, particularly if everyone wants to be pampered together rather than taking turns.

Halona Mom Kids & Baby Spa

Where: Ubud

For families travelling with younger children, Halona Mom Kids & Baby Spa specialises in baby and kids’ spa treatments, including baby massage and spa experiences. It’s a more child-focused option than the resort spas, so it could be a good fit if the little ones are the main reason you’re booking a treatment.

Best places for kids’ manicures and pedicures in Bali

Sometimes your child doesn’t actually want a massage. They want glitter on their fingernails. Luckily, Bali has plenty of options for that too, and a kids’ manicure or pedicure can be an easier introduction to spa treatments for children who are suspicious of the whole lying-still-while-a-stranger-rubs-your-feet concept.

GLO Salon & Beauty

Where: Sanur, Canggu, Seminyak and Nusa Lembongan

GLO has kiddie manicure and pedicure treatments for children up to 12, with mini treatments, nail care and nail art. It has branches across Bali, including Sanur, Canggu, Seminyak and Nusa Lembongan, so it’s a useful option if you’re moving around the island rather than staying in one resort area.

Colors Nail Bar Bali, Canggu

Where: Canggu

Colors Nail Bar has a children’s menu with manicures and pedicures designed around different age groups. The standard kids’ treatments use regular polish, which is reassuring if you’d rather keep gel off small fingernails (it is available as an extra if you insist).

Think Pink Salon, Dalung

Where: Batu Belig, Kerobokan

Think Pink is more salon than traditional day spa, but it’s worth knowing about if your child’s idea of a Bali wellness experience begins and ends with having their nails painted. The current menu includes dedicated kids’ manicure and pedicure treatments, making it a straightforward option for younger children who want to join the family pampering without committing to a full spa treatment.

Sari Day Spa, Sanur

Where: Sanur

Sari Day Spa has a Little Treats Kids Spa menu that includes a 45-minute Magical Mini Massage as well as children’s manicure and pedicure treatments with colour, nail shaping and hand or foot massage. Glitter nail art is also available for the full tiny-diva experience.

How to choose a kids’ spa in Bali

Kicking back at So Spa, Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua

First decide whether you want a proper children’s treatment or simply somewhere that allows children to have a treatment. They’re not necessarily the same thing. Dedicated kids’ spas tend to have shorter treatments, gentler products and menus designed around children’s attention spans. Resort spas are more likely to offer parent-and-child experiences, which can be lovely if you want to spend the time together.

Before you book a family spa day in Bali

For younger children, check the minimum age and whether a parent or carer needs to remain with them. It’s also worth checking exactly what a treatment involves. A “kids’ massage” can mean anything from a short gentle massage to something much closer to an adult treatment.

For tweens and teenagers, the options become broader. Facials, manicures, pedicures, hair treatments and longer massages can make the spa experience feel less like something Mum has dragged them into and more like something they actually chose.

And don’t assume your child wants the same thing you do. You may be dreaming of 90 minutes of uninterrupted Balinese massage. Your daughter may want glitter nails. Your son may want a chocolate massage. Your teenager may consider all of the above an appalling attack on their dignity. Luckily, Bali has a spa for every one of them.

Is there an age limit for kids’ spa treatments in Bali?

There is no universal minimum age for children’s spa treatments in Bali. It depends on the spa and the treatment. Some places have dedicated treatments for very young children, while others set minimum ages for particular massages, facials, nail treatments or body treatments. Resort spas can have their own rules too.

Check the current menu before booking, particularly if you’re travelling with a toddler or younger child. A manicure or parent-and-child treatment can be an easier introduction to spa life than booking a lengthy massage and discovering that your small person has absolutely no intention of lying still.
