It is the Happiest Place on Earth after all.  At Disneyland Park, Walt Disney’s OG theme park, fairies are real and elephants fly, and kids and adults will be swept up in a whirlwind of enchantment, where one minute you’ll be duelling pirates, the next zooming through hyperspace, and, if you’re lucky, hugging a mouse in between.

World of Colour takes over, a kaleidoscopic punch to the senses that leaves you misty-eyed and marvelling at the genius of it all.

Sporting events and activities in Anaheim with Kids

Anaheim is not only home to world-class theme parks, but it also offers a variety of exciting sports activities that kids will love. Whether they’re yelling at the top of their lungs in a stadium or grabbing their own gear for a little action, Anaheim has them covered.

18. Baseball at Angels Stadium

There’s something electric about the atmosphere at Angel Stadium – it’s not just about the game; it’s about the collective energy of the crowd, the crack of the bat, and, of course, the endless supply of hot dogs and nachos. The game itself? That’s awesome too, but so is just soaking up the atmosphere.

19. Angel Stadium Tour

Ever wondered what it’s like behind the scenes of a major league ballpark? Here’s your chance. You’ll walk through the dugouts, touch the grass (not literally, but close enough), and soak up the atmosphere of the Big League. The kids can practice their pitch and dream of the big leagues, and you may even learn a few tips on how to catch a foul ball yourself.

20. Ice Hockey at the Honda Center

If hockey is more your speed, the Honda Center is the perfect place to catch the Anaheim Ducks in action. Born out of Hollywood lore, the team was famously established by Disney after the success of The Mighty Ducks film. Though the franchise has since taken flight on its own, the spirit of resilience and teamwork still defines their play. At “The Pond,” you’ll experience NHL thrills—fast-paced skating, sharp passes, and dramatic saves that keep you on the edge of your seat.

21. The Rinks Anaheim ICE

Inspired? Then get your skates on at The Rinks Anaheim ICE, a classic, carefree activity that’ll make you feel like a kid again and your kids like a future pro hockey star. Formerly Disney Ice, this rink was once the training ground of the Anaheim Ducks. Now it’s just a great spot to cool off, glide across the ice, or, if you’re like most, teach your little ones how to stay upright without face-planting.

22. Newport Bay Sailing

Set sail into the sunset (or just take a casual cruise) at Newport Bay, where you can teach the kids how to navigate the waters like true adventurers. Throw in some snacks, a bit of wind, and a whole lot of fun – you’ve got the makings of a memorable day on the water.

Anaheim offers plenty of experiences that feel more like quirky detours than typical tourist fare. Step off the beaten path and discover some of the city’s more offbeat and local attractions.

23. Take a Segway Tour in Anaheim

Feeling adventurous? Take the whole family on a Segway tour around Anaheim and glide through the city in style. Your guide will show you all the landmarks, from parks to historical spots, while you master the art of balancing on two wheels. It’s a fun way to explore without breaking a sweat.

24. Flightdeck Rogue Racing

So, you’ve always dreamed of being a pilot? Then strap in, because at Flightdeck, you’ll suit up, climb into a simulator, and engage in some no-holds-barred aerial combat. It’s like Top Gun without the G-force, but with a lot more screaming from the kids. A bit of a reality check for those who think they’re the next Maverick. The kids will be bragging about their missions for months.

25. Bowlero Lanes

Strike up some family-friendly competition at Bowlero Anaheim. This isn’t your average bowling alley. It’s neon-lit, upbeat, and has enough distractions to keep kids (and parents) entertained. Grab the bumpers and prepare to get competitive in the most absurdly fun way.

Exploring Anaheim’s Great Outdoors

Anaheim is a springboard into some of California’s best outdoor adventures. Whether it’s hiking through hidden canyons, paddling across crystal-clear waters, or just throwing a line into the surf, it is easy to get off the beaten path, away from the crowds, and embrace the wild, raw beauty that makes this part of the world so damn unforgettable.

26. Huntington Beach

My first experience of Huntington Beach was in the dark of night as an Ugg-booted Snoop Dogg reeled off a bunch of hits, and as many spliffs, by the iconic pier. Since then, I’ve returned to discover that Huntington Beach – better known as Surf City USA – offers the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation for families. There are great waves for kids who want to shoot the pier (ride the waves between the famous pylons), and several surf schools  with instructors providing kid-friendly lessons, equipment rental, safety instructions, and personalised guidance to help newbies of all ages enjoy the experience. As the afternoon fades, take a stroll along the vibrant boardwalk or explore nearby parks. Come evening, gather around a cosy firepit on the beach, roasting s’mores as the sun sets over the Pacific, though unless you bring your AirPods, your visit will likely be sans Snoop.

27. Catalina Island

A reminder that there’s more to Southern California than just slides and rides, Catalina Island is just a short 45-minute drive to Long Beach and an hour-long ferry ride across the Pacific to Avalon, a charming town surrounded by stunning ocean views. The island’s laid-back vibe is a stark contrast to the energy of Anaheim’s theme parks, and you’ll find families kayaking the crystalline coves, kids gawking at underwater life through glass-bottom boats, and hikers tracing trails to soak up endless Pacific views.

28. Newport Beach

Located in Newport Beach, 25 minutes from Anaheim, Newport Beach is a coastal haven known for its world-class food, picturesque shoreline, and tranquil bay waters. Kids will love the amusement and its Ferris wheel, offering a bird’s-eye view over the beach. It’s also a great spot to trade theme parks and museums for waves, with lessons for young and old so everyone can ride the waves together. Experienced instructors guide you through the basics, and before you know it, your kids will be showing off their moves.

29 . Oak Canyon Nature Center

The great outdoors calls at Oak Canyon Nature Center. Located in the Anaheim Hills, around 15 minutes from Anaheim, hiking trails, bird watching, and nature walks provide the perfect backdrop for a family day out. Kids will enjoy exploring the environment, and you’ll love the peace and quiet as you unwind in nature.

30. Ralph B. Clark Regional Park

Nestled at the foot of the Coyote Hills, 15 minutes from Anaheim, the Ralph B. Clark Regional Park is 42 hectares (104 acres) of green, stretching out in all directions with a bit of everything for families. Kids will love exploring and connecting with nature around the lake and along the many hiking and cycling trails. You’ll also find playgrounds, volleyball courts, softball fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and picnic areas, so you can make a day of it.

31. Irvine Regional Park

Just 20 minutes from Anaheim, Irvine Regional Park is the perfect spot to slow down and enjoy a day of classic fun. A throwback to simpler times, pack a picnic, grab your little adventurers, and spend the day deciding whether to ride the mini train or paddle around the lake. With six playgrounds, four softball fields, and even horseshoe pits, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained.

32. Peters Canyon Regional Park

A short drive from Anaheim, Peters Canyon Regional Park offers a peaceful escape. With over 140 hectares of stunning natural beauty, the park features scenic trails perfect for hiking, biking, and wildlife watching. Whether you’re exploring the rolling hills, taking in views of the reservoir, or enjoying a leisurely walk around the park, Peters Canyon is nature’s own theme park, minus the lines and long waits.

33. Santiago Oaks Regional Park

A peaceful retreat in the heart of Orange County, just 20 minutes from Anaheim, Santiago Oaks Regional Park offers miles of scenic trails perfect for family hikes, nature exploration, and even horseback riding. Whether you’re strolling through oak-lined paths or spotting wildlife along the way, this park is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.

Anaheim’s OG food hall, the Packing House, is a former citrus packing house that has been transformed into a mega restaurant establishment covering two floors. With a mix of more than 20 artisan eateries and weekend live music, grab some grub and let your kids go wild in the outdoor seating area. The gourmet tacos and fresh ceviche at Urbana are addictive, as are the noodles and freshly rolled sushi at Zabon Ramen & Rolls. Kids will love the quirk factor of the anti-gravity noodles at 206 BCE and the creamy, dreamy boba concoctions at Mini Monster Café and the enormous donuts from Randy’s. There are several great bars too, including too cool hidden speakeasy, The Blind Rabbit.

Flanking the Packing House are two other fantastic dining and drinking venues. On one side is the MAKE Building, a former marmalade factory that has been renovated and now boasts a bespoke brewery, a winery and distillery, as well as a Korean kitchen offering up crispy Korean chicken sandos. On the other side is Farmers Park, whihc houses the amazing “18 Folds Dim Sum, renowned for its innovative take on traditional Chinese cuisine. The name pays homage to the meticulous craftsmanship involved in making xiao long bao (soup dumplings), where each dumpling is traditionally folded exactly 18 times to achieve the perfect balance of thin, delicate skin and flavourful filling.

Two notable breweries, Unsung Brewing Company and Villains Brewing Company, bring a little extra character and creativity to Anaheim’s vibrant Packing District.

Unsung Brewing Company invites beer lovers into a comic book–inspired world. Named to honour the “unsung heroes” of the craft beer scene, Unsung embraces a full superhero aesthetic with collectible cans, bold artwork, and a taproom brimming with action-figure flair. Their inventive IPAs and playful sours feel right at home in a space where every brew tells a story. Across the way, Villains Brewing Company delivers a darker twist. Whether you’re drawn to heroes or villains, both breweries make a dynamic duo for a fun night out.

For a side of old-school spectacle with your meal, head to Medieval Times, a full-blown, jousting, sword-swinging, horse-riding, flag-waving extravaganza. The venue is a castle, the food is served in generous, no-frills portions (think roasted chicken, potatoes, and a hearty flagon of soda), and the knights? Well, they’re battling it out for glory. It’s loud, it’s a little wild, and it’s loads of fun for families.

39. Pirate’s Dinner Adventure

Ahoy, matey! Located in Buena Park, just 15 minutes from Anaheim, Pirate’s Dinner Adventure is an interactive family dinner with live action, sword fights, and a hearty meal, where your little pirates can have a swashbuckling good time. It’s loud, messy, and utterly unpretentious, and everyone is sure to leave with a smile, and maybe even a parrot.

40. Little Saigon

Located 20 minutes south-west of Disneyland is Little Saigon. Here, the air hums with the scent of simmering broth and sizzling crepes, a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of a community that’s built the largest Vietnamese enclave outside Vietnam.
