Beauty and The Beast at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth

Beauty and The Beast at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth with kids
Once upon a time there was a smart and sweet beauty who loved her family, cake and to dance, though not necessarily in that order. Beauty was a little upset by the behaviour of The Beast (her mother), a mean creature who had the audacity to have been working a few too many hours of late and, to add insult to injury, had taken Beauty’s big smelly brother away for an overseas work trip.

This had left a deprived Beauty at home to suffer the terrible indignity of being spoiled rotten by her devoted father and being showered with gifts by the guilt-plagued Beast and her smelly older brother on their return.

In an act of penitence, The Beast offered to take Beauty for a special adventure all of her own, no boys allowed. Beauty was excited by this idea but being the smart, strong and sassy individual she was, delivered a set of ironclad terms.

Cake, shopping, and highly polished nails would be required. There would need to be dancing. And The Beast would have to leave her laptop behind and turn her phone off for the duration. Wait, what?

At this point some people may have considered telling Beauty she was a spoiled brat and could jam her terms where the sun don’t shine, but a contrite Beast did not. Instead she realised just how often she had fobbed Beauty off with a barrage of “Not Now, I’m Busys”, “Laters” and “Can’t you see I’m workings” and realised that her beloved daughter was in desperate need of some quality, undivided attention from her slack arse mother.

But where?

Like magic, the Sofitel Sydney came galloping to the rescue with a smiling “Bonjour” and their Beauty and The Beast at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth family package. Not only was the five star hotel offering luxurious overnight accommodation, complete with an Enchanted Rose Bluetooth Speaker perfect for pumping out the danciest of dance tunes and the option of a cake-filled Beauty and the Beast High Tea, there was a perfectly good nail salon downstairs and the city’s best department stores were just a few minutes walk away.

When Beauty and her beastly mummy agreed that it was the perfect solution for some much needed time together, The Beast forgot to pack her phone charger (quite possibly on purpose) and what eventuated was a weekend as magical as any fairy tale, with a beaming Beauty seeing The Beast transformed back into a loving, attentive and mobile-phone free mother.

Mummy and me time at Sofitel Sydney

But as wonderful as this beast thought the Sofitel’s family package was, my opinion doesn’t really matter, because this experience was all about my daughter. And so, for the first time ever, I’m handing the voice of the blog over to Sugarpuff, who is sitting on my lap as I type. Why? Because she thought that (with some prompting and grammatical assistance from her mummy) it would be nice to tell you all about it herself…

“Mummy and I ran away from home for boy free time because she has been busy and I felt lonely. She took me to the Sofitel Sydney because Sofitel is always my favourite because the hotels are really pretty and the people there are so nice. Plus this one was extra special because there were Beauty & The Beast things all over the place.

It was exciting because when we arrived a lady gave me a red rose and in our room their were rose cupcakes and a book and activities.

There was a big rose under glass too. Mummy says it was enchanted and it was all glowy and pretty and looked like the one from the book. But the best bit was it played music from our iPod. And it was really loud.

We went to the library. It was called Belle’s reading Corner. It was nice because there were books to read and it was comfortable and the couch was silky and golden.

After mummy read me Beauty & The Beast, we went to a special high tea (at Soiree Restaurant). They had a giant red rose that was taller than me and another one under a glass thing on our table. I liked all the roses everywhere because they were so pretty.

The gave me a yummy hot chocolate in a pink stripy cup and I think the spoon was made from real gold. The table was so beautiful and magical and I thought maybe Belle might come but she didn’t. But that’s ok because I didn’t really want to share my mummy with anyone, not even Belle.

I was excited because our high tea plates were so big.  Mummy’s was like an enormous tower but she let me take whatever I liked from it because she’s so nice. I had a tuna sandwich (tuna on whole wheat bread) and mummy shared her salmon roll (salmon gravlax and tomato on Viennese baguette) with me. There were some other sandwiches too (Roasted Angus beef on wholewheat) but mummy ate those.

The scones were really soft and yummy. They were the best scones ever, even better than my grandmas’. I put loads and loads of jam on them. It felt so special to have tea with just mummy because I liked getting her all to myself, and having lots of cake.

There were tiny strawberry tarts and (berry) macarons and they were my favourites because they tasted so good. There was also yummy (passionfruit) cheesecake, white chocolate creamy stuff (white chocolate dome), and a cake that looked liked BB8 from Star Wars (rose and raspberry religieuse).

Then we went to the park (The Royal Botanical Gardens is just a block away) and saw the eels in the pond and danced on the grass.

Mummy took me shopping and let me pick some new clothes and we got our nails done too. She let me pick whatever colour I wanted. I chose dark purple.

When we went back to our room, we put the enchanted rose light speaker on and we danced and danced and jumped on the bed together. It was so fun.

Party in our room at Sofitel Sydney

For dinner we had yummy chicken satay sticks and chips (the Beauty & The Beast Package includes a complimentary dinner for children up to 12 years of age when accompanied by a paying adult). Then mummy and I went to our room and snuggled up and watched Moana and ate ice cream in bed and I made a wish on the enchanted rose that we could always have so much fun together.”

(The beauty and the beast package is available until 30 June 2017. For more information visit Sofitel Sydney Wentworth).

What a magical mother-daughter experience. I love all the details in the story miss Sugarpuff, from the scrumptious high tea to the way you described the different roses. Well done!
